Sydney’s marginalised communities are currently struggling with food insecurity made worse by the rising cost of living. Foodbank’s 2022 Hunger Report highlighted that nationally over 2 million households had experienced severe food insecurity in the last 12 months.
To combat this, Plate it Forward’s restaurant quality meal donation program, The Social Meal, feeds up to 2,000 people each week. They donate hot and nutritious meals to their charity partners throughout Sydney.
Plate it Forward believes in a circular model for change. Their meals use rescued but perfectly edible food that's destined for landfill, to instead be cooked by students enrolled in their chef training and employment pathway.
To date, Plate it Forward has donated 400,000 meals, with a target to donate 104,000 meals per annum in the fight against hunger.
