Dress for Success NSW & ACT, Melissa Collins
Dress for Success has helped more than one million women work towards self-sufficiency. Although thousands still struggle and have lost their confidence. Supporting a woman to lift herself out of hardship and distress, can enable her to build a brighter future for herself and her family. Not just for today, but for the rest of her life.
On December 13th 2023, we welcomed Dress for Success to provide insights into their work in empowering women to achieve economic independence.
There are currently 346,000 women unemployed across Australia. Thousands of women are struggling and have lost their confidence.
Dress for Success envisions a world where women thrive in work and in life.
Our purpose is to empower women towards economic independence by supporting unemployed and underemployed women to transition back into the workforce. We do that by getting them job ready through their clothing and ensuring they feel good and confident.
We support about 2,500 women a year facing challenges like the cost of living crisis, access to housing, surge of family violence. The reality is that we’re also one step away from a bad break, one lost job, one chronic illness or injury where we find ourselves in similar challenging circumstances.
Dress for Success is a volunteer-led organisation that is women supporting and empowering other women. When someone comes in, they’re allocated a stylist who works with them for a whole hour to feel good in their own skin and clothes. We see clothing as an essential item. How you look, how you feel and how you present to the outside world makes the world of difference.
As an organisation, it’s about seeing people as people, seeing their potential and not their vulnerabilities so that we can empower them to be the best they can be.
