Project:Â Feed Aussies in crisis
Location: Australia
Foodbank already provides food relief to over 1 million Australians per month. The latest Foodbank Hunger Report 2023 revealed that the rising cost of living is tipping people over the edge.
On the 16th of November 2023, we welcomed Foodbank Australia on the worsening crisis of 3.7 million Australian households experiencing moderate to severe food insecurity in the last 12 months. This means, at the very least, they are reducing the quality, variety or desirability of their food and at worst, their eating patterns are disrupted.
Food insecurity is now being experienced in homes it has never touched before and 77% of these households experienced it for the first time in the last year.
Key insights
Foodbank Australia’s mission is to end hunger in Australia – one that requires collective effort.
The face of hunger in Australia is changing, with more than half of food insecure homes having someone in paid work and those experiencing food insecurity for the first time are younger, with mid to higher incomes. The number one reason households struggle to put food on the table is the cost-of-living crisis.
With the help of i=Change businesses, we have helped raise over $627,000 and counting. These funds have helped deliver over 1.2 million meals across Australia as part of Foodbank’s Key Staples Program.
For every $1 donated, Foodbank can create two meals for someone doing it tough.
Be the change today.Â
