Projects: Support mental health
Location: Australia
Beyond Blue Support is available for all Australians to speak to a trained counsellor at any time. Their trained mental health professionals listen, provide advice and counselling, and point people in the right direction to receive the support they need.
On the 6th of September 2023, in the lead-up to R U Ok? Day we welcomed Beyond Blue on the issue of around two million Australians living with anxiety, and around one million living with depression.
Sadly, on average eight Australians take their lives every day.
Key insights
What does Beyond Blue do?Â
Beyond Blue is one of Australia’s most well known and trusted mental health brand. Since 2000, we have been providing advice, support, and connection for millions of people who are impacted by anxiety, depression and suicide.
Our vision is to ensure that everyone in Australia can achieve their best possible mental health. We do this by working with the community to improve the health outcomes by making it so people feel better earlier, get well and stay well.
Our new strategy is described in three words: earlier, easier and together.
How have the Beyond Blue Support Service offerings evolved over the past 12 months–and what are some of the key challenges and opportunities moving forward?
We have several optimisation initiatives with some in the development phase still. We are optimising the user journey through web chat by capturing key information prior to that individual engaging with the counsellor. This maximises the quality of support, reducing the time taken to ask demographic questions.
We have also incorporated the ability to route our users to counsellors with high proficiency in a specific channel of support – an uplift in capability skills for the workforce to be able to respond to that increase in demand for web chats.
What are the impacts of the funds raised for Beyond Blue through the i=Change platform?Â
Over 2,848 people would have been able to reach out to that Beyond Blue Support Service with the funds raised through i=Change. For us, it’s essential that we are there to answer every call but also raising awareness for people so that they know there is a service available for them.
We want to share key insights from Kirsty’s team who had feedback from recent callers who used the service. 83% of people who contacted the support service have reported that they felt heard and understood, 75% have said that they felt less distressed after engagement, 83% have said that they felt their questions were answered and 80% of people said that they would actually act on the advice they have been given.
Every $48 raised supports one phone call
