Most violence against women occur here due to neglect – when a husband leaves the family, and a woman has to survive alone with her children.
We train women how keep safe and budget their money. As a trauma counsellor, I help with emotional and counselling support, especially for cases of sexual or physical abuse.
There is so much violence in this region. We also see 1 to 2 sorcery cases per month where women are accused of being responsible for someone’s death in a community. They can be tortured or even killed, so we need to get them to a safe house as quickly as possible.
My role model is my mother, who has helped so many people in her life, especially women and children. In Papua New Guinea, we see women as second in everything – and I want to change this. Women need so much help here. I am very passionate about this and I am giving my life to this issue.
